Join Seaton’s IEA Show Team

The Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) is a national organization that works with riding stables throughout the country to promote and improve the quality of and access to equestrian competition and instruction for young riders. IEA utilizes a unique draw-based team competition format whereby riders are not required to own their own horse or riding tack to participate – providing greater affordability and access to the sport. This format not only increases rider’s access to show opportunities but also equalizes competition variables and tests the horsemanship of the contestants.

The competition season starts September 1st (we offer a preseason at Seaton Hackney starts in August) and ends at National Finals in late spring / early summer. Show classes are offered in four ability levels: Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, and Open. Points are tracked for individual rider accomplishments and for overall team accomplishments. These points are then used to qualify for Regional, Zone and National Finals.

Benefit to Riders

IEA is open to riders at the middle and upper school levels (between 4th to 12th grade). As part of the IEA Team at Seaton Hackney Stables, riders will learn a set of minimum standards for competition through safe riding instruction and horsemanship.

Additionally, IEA Team members have the opportunity to earn scholarships toward their college education through awards both in and out in competition. Riders will become part of a social and competitive team that works together toward a common goal, cheering each other on as they work toward individual achievements.

Team members will get the chance to travel to off-site shows, make new friends, improve their riding skills and gauge their horsemanship progress. It’s also a wonderful way to improve self-esteem and self-confidence for our young school-aged riders
